Herkimer County Community College, affectionately known as Herkimer College since its 2014 rebranding, has been a cornerstone of higher education in central New York since its authorization in 1966. What began with a modest first class of 221 freshmen in a temporary campus on the upper floors of Remington Arms Company in 1967, quickly evolved into the vibrant institution housed on its permanent campus since 1971.
