Hocking College

Hocking College stands as a cornerstone of technical and vocational education in Southeast Ohio, dedicated to equipping students with the practical skills demanded by the modern workforce. Founded in 1968 as the Tri-County Institute, the college emerged from a clear regional need for a specialized vocational and technical institution, quickly establishing itself as a vital educational resource.

From its humble beginnings with approximately 250 students and 28 instructors, Hocking College rapidly gained recognition. In 1969, it was granted a charter by the Ohio Board of Regents, authorizing it to offer degrees in 13 technical programs. This commitment to hands-on learning and career-focused education set the stage for its growth, including a name change to Hocking Technical College in 1972 and a significant campus relocation in 1975.

A truly distinctive feature of Hocking College, especially for a two-year institution in Ohio, is its offering of college-owned residence halls, which opened in 1975. This allows students to immerse themselves fully in college life, fostering a vibrant campus community. Beyond the main campus, Hocking's unique educational environment is further enriched by its ownership and operation of Lake Snowden, a 670-acre recreation area, and an additional 1,400 acres of rugged open-space land, providing unparalleled opportunities for outdoor education and practical field experience.
