Los Angeles Mission College

Los Angeles Mission College (LAMC), established in 1975, stands as the ninth and youngest college within the vibrant Los Angeles Community College District. From its modest beginnings operating out of various community spaces with approximately 1,200 students, LAMC has blossomed into a comprehensive public community college serving over 12,000 students annually. Its journey of growth reflects a deep commitment to providing accessible, quality education in the San Fernando and Sylmar neighborhoods, continually adapting to meet the evolving needs of its diverse student body.

LAMC's history is marked by significant expansion and a dedication to modernizing its campus and offerings. After its initial scattered locations, the college established its permanent 22-acre campus in Sylmar in 1991, laying the groundwork for continuous development. The subsequent decades saw the addition of crucial facilities like the Library and Learning Resource Center, the Collaborative Studies Building, and specialized centers such as the Center for Child Development Studies, the state-of-the-art Culinary Arts Institute, and the Center for Math & Science. These strategic investments underscore LAMC's commitment to creating an enriching and supportive learning environment.

Academically, LAMC empowers students with a broad spectrum of opportunities, offering courses in over 50 different disciplines ranging from Administration of Justice and Business to Journalism and Zoology. The college's focus on practical, career-oriented education is evident in its specialized buildings like the Health, Athletics, and Fitness building and the Media Arts building, ensuring students gain relevant skills for today's workforce. The recent opening of the Student Services & Administration Building in 2023 centralizes essential resources like Financial Aid, Counseling, and the Veterans Resource Center, streamlining support and enhancing the overall student experience.
