Rio Hondo College

Step into Rio Hondo College, a dynamic public community college where the inspiring motto "Start Rio...Go Anywhere!" truly comes to life. Since its founding in 1963, this institution has served as a pivotal launchpad for students eager to embark on diverse academic and career journeys, offering accessible and high-quality education right in the heart of its community.

The college's roots run deep, tracing back to the establishment of the Rio Hondo College District in October 1960. Its very name, chosen in May 1963, pays homage to the neighboring Rio Hondo River, connecting the institution intrinsically to its local environment. This commitment to the community was further solidified when voters enthusiastically approved a significant US$12 million bond in October 1963, demonstrating strong local support for the college's vision and future.

While classes initially commenced in local high schools, Rio Hondo College soon found its permanent home. The current, dedicated campus, strategically situated off Workman Mill Road, proudly opened its doors for classes in Fall 1966. Today, Rio Hondo College continues to empower students, providing a stable and expanding environment for learning and growth, whether they aim to transfer to four-year universities or step directly into fulfilling careers.
