With a rich history dating back to its charter in 1958 as the Wake County Industrial Education Center, Wake Tech officially opened its doors on October 7, 1963, with a mission to serve its community. Starting with 304 enrolled students and a robust offering of 34 curriculum study programs and 270 industrial training programs, the college quickly established itself as a hub for skill development. Over the decades, its identity evolved through various names—including W. W. Holding Technical Institute (1970-1973), Wake Technical Institute (1974-1979), and Wake Technical College (1980-1988)—reflecting its growth and expanding scope.
