Westmoreland County Community College, founded in 1970 with the motto "Ambitious.", serves as a vibrant public community college committed to empowering students. The college's journey began with humble evening classes in 1971, quickly growing to establish its permanent residence in Youngwood by 1972. Over the decades, Westmoreland has expanded significantly, developing its original campus to four buildings and establishing several education centers across the region, including Murrysville, Fayette County, Indiana County, Latrobe, New Kensington, and a Public Safety Training Center. This expansion underscores its dedication to providing accessible education to diverse communities.

Academically, Westmoreland offers a robust portfolio designed to meet a wide range of educational and professional goals. Students can choose from 64 associate degree programs, 13 diploma options, and 49 certificate programs, meticulously crafted to prepare them for immediate employment or seamless transfer into baccalaureate degree programs. Beyond traditional pathways, the college also provides enriching Continuing Education courses for adults, displaced workers, non-traditional students, and engaging summer camps for kids.

Student life at Westmoreland is enlivened by the "Wolfpack" athletics, with teams competing in baseball, basketball, bowling, softball, and volleyball. A significant highlight includes the women's cross country team achieving a national #2 ranking in Fall 2020. Demonstrating its commitment to student-athletes, the athletics program transitioned to NJCAA Division II in Fall 2023, now offering scholarships. Under the leadership of Dr. Kristin L. Mallory, set to begin her presidency in July 2025, Westmoreland continues to evolve, dedicated to fostering student success and community impact.
